Let's start with the water park, shall we? Nothing screams luxury like a pool filled with people who have taken the liberty of turning it into their personal beer garden. My stay there was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, filled with countless surprises and moments of pure joy. Oh, where do I even begin with the marvelous Mariott Turnberry? Prepare to be astounded by the sheer excellence of this magnificent establishment. Try sleeping at night in July, in South FL with a room that doesn't get below 82 degrees. We brought a huge convention with over 500 attendees and vendors to this property, their lack of ability to honor our contract properly will probably not allow us to use this property in the future. The hotel offered to move us to a downgraded room at no charge (that was kind but not practical). We had several people from maintenance come through and check things, but they couldn't get it working. That room had old worn out furniture and the A/C was not working properly. The event coordinator finally got it straightened out with the hotel and we were given a different suite and joining room. They then proceeded to tell me a request for a joining room was not a guarantee even though it was in our contract. They told us our joining room was given away to another guest. We arrived for a convention, our contract with the hotel included both a presidential suite and the joining room. The property is beautiful, but check-in was not good. I attempted to speak with several managers which took them 3 days to call me back and no resolution was accomplished.… Most of my staycation was just spent waiting in line to line and for an elevator that basically was on life support. The hotel building which had 7 floors only had one working elevator causing long waits in our building. They also changed the wrist bands for the pool where you no longer get them up front in lobby and have to get them at the water park which just makes the process even worse. Needless to say the check in process is horrible and takes forever it's not streamlined. I let the manager know and spoke to a few other managers who all made it seem like this was not a big deal. When you're paying such a high nightly rate at a hotel a certain level customer service is expected and certainly being called names and yelled at is not it. She accused me of not trying to pay for parking which was included in my room rate and called me crazy several times for saying I've used my key card to get in and out self parking. However when the attendant came over she become very combative and even proceeded to call me names while shouting at me. At 11:30 at night my family and I came back from dinner to self-park our car the self parking machine would not work and we had to wait almost ten minutes for an attendant to come over to help us get in. Elevators broken just to name a few of my issues. The line to check in is almost over 30mins long. Bigfoot strikes a perfect balance between max clearance and making space for a frame bag in the front triangle. Getting off the pedals in deep snow requires lots of space over the top tube. Top tube clearance is critical in fat biking. Rack mounts in the rear, bottle mounts above and beneath the down tube and triple mounts on the fork give you the option of running a barebones setup or loading up for a massive excursion. When included, dropper posts are spec’d for reliable cold weather performance. I wanted a bike that wouldn’t intimidate with its price, and the alloy frame manages. Pill splitting is also not recommended for situations where the patient might not understand the concept or be capable of splitting a pill. Don't split drugs with an enteric coating (designed to protect the stomach), drugs that are time-release or long-acting, drugs taken more often than once a day, drugs in capsules, and prepackaged drugs in specific doses, like birth control pills. Some immediate-release tablets may be split, and tablets that are scored have been evaluated by the FDA for safety. Norco (hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen) is an opioid analgesic and antitussive (cough suppressant) combined with a pain reliever (analgesic) used to treat moderate to fairly severe pain. Pill splitters can be bought at most pharmacies for around $5. Some important things to consider before pill splitting: You'll need to ask your doctor if pill splitting is a good idea for your prescription if so, they will need to adjust your prescription accordingly. While it may seem odd, the 40mg version of the same drug typically does not cost twice as much as the 20mg-in fact, it often costs the exact same amount! 75mm wide 27.5 rims and frame clearance for up to 4.6 tires to put more rubber onto whatever surface youre riding. You won’t find a better paddle for this price. Regardless of how long your trip will be, don’t forget to pack a spare paddle ($36) as well, in the event you lose your primary one. The SeaSense X-1 kayak paddle is buoyant and affordable. This is why it’s important to purchase a floating paddle for your kayak camping trip. No one wants to be up a creek, river, or lake without a paddle. “My alternative to using pro would be to drive back out to cell service”. The Dyrt PRO lets you download maps and campgrounds without cell service. Prepare for your next adventure by downloading maps. Whether you’re planning to embark on the open ocean, local stream, mountain lakes, or winding rivers, this kayak can handle it. If you’re just getting into kayak camping, and you aren’t ready to invest in your own kayak yet, try renting one from your local gear store first. This watercraft has two relatively large storage compartments, as well as bungies located on the top of the hull so you can tie extra cargo down. Wilderness Systems’ Tsunami 125 is a kayak built for touring (long distance travel). However, they are well-worth the investment if you plan to camp with your kayak often. Kayaks built for touring or camping are no different. Though, full disclosure, and probably not much of a surprise, boats are not cheap. With the help of my fellow Dyrt-bags, here’s a gear list to ensure that you have a great time on your kayak camping adventure. There are still risks to using a waterway as your trail, but as long as you have the right gear, you can lower your risk, and increase your fun out on the water. The Gear You Need for Your Next Kayak Camping Trip I gave it the option to migrate to a Luminar 4 library, and it asked where the folder for that was. I set the software to look for libraries on my Mac, and it found the Lightroom data. You can start by dropping a catalog on the app, or it can look in the usual places. It's small because I use mainly use Adobe bridge, which I find a lighter-weight solution, although it doesn't have much power. The software was developed by Aperture users who wanted an easy way to migrate their data elsewhere without losing their edits. I tried the software on a small Lightroom library. Also, black and white conversion is fully supported for the highest accuracy. The software uses machine learning, so all standard edits (white balance, light, color) are migrated using machine language\ in such a way that the image will look the same in the destination catalog. Avalanche Unlimited will be frequently updated with all the catalog formats that we aim to support in the future.Avalanche Unlimited does not require the source or destination app to be present or functional on disk.Supported outputs: Adobe Lightroom (version 8 and version 9), Luminar 4.2, files, and folders.Source catalogs: Adobe Lightroom (from version 7 on), Aperture, Luminar (from version 4.2).Many fallback strategies when the destination catalog does not support the same set of features as the source. Many output options to control the location, copy rules, and organization of images in their new destination.Full support for images on offline volumes.Full support for managed and referenced images.Avalanche will try to replicate the organization features present in the source catalog. All your collections, albums, sets, stacks, and projects are fully migrated. All your annotations (all IPTC fields), keywords, face detections are fully migrated.Full support for migrating masters and versions, both for pictures and videos. There have been solutions for some of these migrations, like an Adobe plugin that can get both Apple Photos and Aperture into Lightroom, but it doesn't get everything. But Avalanche Unlimited is like a Swiss Army knife allowing you to move your libraries from anywhere to almost anywhere else. Since Aperture is no longer supported by Apple, people want to easily move those libraries elsewhere. Migrating libraries can be a real pain point, and I hear from an increasing number of photographers who are moving away from Lightroom, but don't want to lose their library data. You can switch up the difficultly level of a Power Tower workout, making it easier or more difficult by using additional equipment such as weight vests, bands or weights. What is a Power Tower Workout?Ī Power Tower workout centers around performing bodyweight exercises that can help you to build lean muscle. The Captain's Chair is a tool meant primarily for core exercises as it has a backrest and elbow rests with vertical grips and usually horizontal dips bars. The Power Tower almost always has the pull-up bar and the dip bars but sometimes doesn't include the Captain's Chair function. Power Tower vs Captain's Chair: What's the Difference?Įven though people may mistake these as the same, there is a slight difference. Some Captain's Chairs also have parallel grips so that dips can be performed as well. It allows users to lift their legs to work the core muscles. The Captain's Chair is mainly used to do core exercises that work the abs and obliques. Instead, this piece of gym equipment consists of a backrest and armrests with grips towards the ends. A Captain's Chair is a tool found in some gyms that looks like a big chair without a seat to sit in. Captain’s Chair/Knee Raise Station/Roman Chair. Wrapping up, the Power Tower usually combines three pieces of equipment into one: The “Power” part of the equipment is made of the horizontal grips at the end of the arm rests to do dips plus the a bar to do chin-ups or pull-ups and then at the bottom there are usually push-up handles to do deep ‘Atlas” push-ups. The apparatus is usually comprised of a backrest with forearm rests with vertical grips on the end that create the “Captain’s Chair” portion. The basic function of this tool is provide users with a platform to compete a numerous bodyweight exercises that build upper body strength and core strength. It's comprised of a pull-up bar, dip station, knee raise station (a.k.a Captain's Chair), and even push-up grips at the base. You’ll leave a streak on either stone, but they’re very different. Grab a knife, then try and scratch the rock. Most of the tests available to a hobbyist rockhound will quickly tell you which of these stones you’ve got. How To Tell the Difference Between Rose Quartz and Pink Calcite Telling the difference between them is an easy matter. You’ll only ever confuse these minerals if you rely only on sight. Crystal shape usually matters little in the formation of massive minerals, they generally end up with a similar blocky appearance due to the different growing crystals. Both pink calcite and rose quartz are most often seen in a complex intergrowth of crystals, which we call massive. The other place where they’re similar is in their crystal formation. They don’t even have the same coloring agents despite the similarity in coloration. The similar appearance is the closest they get together. These stones are both pink, of course, and have a similar appearance. So we have a hard, pink mineral that generally occurs in massive form. It’s similar to the way that amethyst is colored, where the elements actually end up in the crystal. Aluminum, titanium, and manganese have all been found in varying levels in samples of rose quartz. Rose quartz is colored by inclusions of different minerals in its crystalline lattice. Quartz is silica, or SiO₂, a common mineral found across the entire planet. Quartz is the mineral that defines 7.0 on the Moh’s scale, although some massive pieces may be slightly softer. Like all quartz, rose quartz is very hard. This is particularly the case with material from South Dakota, which is one of the best places to find this mineral in the world. Asterism is the star that’s sometimes seen in sapphire and ruby cabochons, where included rutile creates an optical effect similar to a six-rayed star. Massive rose quartz sometimes displays asterism. Rose quartz is found on rare occasions as single crystals, but those with good color, clarity, and lack of heavy inclusions are even rarer and can fetch high prices. The interlocking quartz crystals end up creating a system that looks quite similar to pink calcite. Instead, virtually all rose quartz is massive in nature. Namely, the normal quartz crystalline form of hexagonal crystals with a pyramidal termination are almost never present. It’s quite a bit different from the normal crystals we expect to find from quartz and even some variations such as citrine and amethyst. Rose Quartz is a light to deep pink variation of quartz. Pink calcite tends to be massive and is colored by manganese minerals. Put together, we’ve got a soft, beautiful mineral that’s highly variable in crystal shape. It doesn’t have anything to do with size. That just means that it’s comprised of interlocking crystal systems that create a single solid mass rather than individual crystals. Pink calcite is often massive, rather than in well-formed singular crystals. While it’s very soft it also takes a nice polish and the lack of hardness makes it quick and easy to work.Ĭalcite’s simple nature means that it’s found very often, but pink stuff only comes from certain localities. It’s a favorite of carvers, especially for decorative objects that aren’t meant to be worn. Pink CalciteĬalcite is a soft mineral, sitting at 3 on the Moh’s scale of hardness. This has made it a favorite for many collectors since it’s common, varied, and relatively cheap compared to more exotic minerals. You could fill a cabinet with just the different forms of calcite before you even get into the many colors it comes in. The coloring agent is caused by tiny inclusions of manganese minerals which give it a nice shade of pink when spread throughout the crystals.Ĭalcite itself is known for occurring in many different crystalline forms. Blue and pink calcite are both readily available in bulk, being among the most common colors of the mineral. It’s one of the many forms of the chemical calcium carbonate, which exists along a spectrum that also includes aragonite and dolomite.Ĭalcite is naturally colorless, but it’s found in many shades. What is Pink Calcite? Pink CalciteĬalcite is one of the most common minerals to find, especially in crystalline form. So, let’s take a closer look at the properties of pink calcite versus rose quartz, and then I’ll help you scratch the surface of figuring out which is which. There are some serious differences that are easy to check if you’re trying to determine which you’ve got in hand. For new rockhounds, especially those still relying only on sight, the difference between pink calcite and rose quartz isn’t immediately obvious. “We had the opportunity to win and we didn’t,” Latham said. In Kansas, however, the water rose 36 in over a stretch of track that had already been raised 24 in, Davis said. above the top of the rails after a levee break in Missouri, but the signal equipment had been raised during earlier flooding so it was left in place, he said. Union Pacific had track closed in Missouri and Kansas, 21.4 miles between Kansas City and Jefferson City for 22 days in July and 12.75 miles between Atchison and Leavenworth for 26 days in late June and most of July, according to spokesman Mark Davis. “We used a work train with side dump cars to unload over 550 cars of rip rap and also 400 cars of ballast,” using stone from local quarries and hiring contractors to haul it and fill the cars, she said. While water was over much of the track from early June through late August, the line had only one washout, a 70-ft gap that required more than 4,000 tons of material, she said. Norfolk Southern has reinforced more than half of the 70 miles of track in its Kansas City district and, without that “would have suffered washout at locations that only had water on one side of the fills,” Chapman said. “If it had remained at the pre-’93 level we would have had 15 miles near Carrollton, Mo., under water by up to 2 feet,” she added. “Due to major roadbed work after the 1993 flood and additional work after the 2007 flood our track did not require any additional raising,” said Robin Chapman, spokeswoman for Norfolk Southern. Norfolk Southern Railway and Union Pacific Railroad raised track in Kansas and Missouri major floods within the past two decades, but the 2011 flood was so severe that they were again forced to elevate roadbeds. railroad companies stayed a step ahead of the floodwaters, building levees and elevating tracks to keep their trains running. I might try building a small chest using screws and then filing off the heads. The Missouri River flooding closed railroads as well as highways last summer, but U.S. Oh well, a coat of stain should take care of that detail. I found this out when I sawed off the tips of the screws and saw shiny steel instead of shiny brass. I used some old brass screws from my grandfather’s stash. Then I bored the pilot holes all the way through the case and installed the screws. I had to use longer and bigger screws to do this, so I reamed out the countersinks in the lock. This morning I installed the lockset on this folding bookcase and decided to mess around with the riveted look. However I am keeping an open mind to other ideas that are as simple or even simpler. My suspicion is that these “rivets” are likely brass screws that have had their heads filed off after they were driven in. ( Here’s a description with a drawing.) With these campaign pieces, the “rivets” are put into a blind hole. Why? Because a traditional rivet (or nail and rove) is a joint that requires access to both ends of the fastener. While the brass or copper fasteners might look like the rivets found in wooden boat construction, it’s unlikely (a nice way of saying “flipping impossible”) that these pieces are riveted. Well, that’s what the antique dealers call the fastener. One of the interesting features of Campaign Furniture is that some of it is assembled with rivets. |
