![]() ![]() This article examines the Netherlandish chapter of the Renaissance fascination with pictograms, or beeldletteren, as a key aspect of the scientific enterprise to decode, represent and master the Book of Nature. The aim of this paper is to identify the characteristics of the Glagolitic script, as intangible cultural heritage, on which the information age media (and thus communication) can rely as a source. ![]() The authors have proposed the hypothesis that the Glagolitic script holds a certain media potential that could be interesting to the modern media as a source of new cultural products (literature, music, movies, etc.) or a source of communication experiences for introducing new digital media communication trends. ![]() Based on the above, the authors of this paper examine the semiotic potential of the Glagolitic script categorising it: a) as the potential of the script which conveyed three messages (graphemic, numeric and symbolic) with a single sign, b) as the potential of the script, which, in itself, is “the script with a message” (of Christianity). the source of creative ideas for both science and art.
